Right to Care (from Wizz Air)

Every time you have to wait extra, you have the right to care.

Has your Wizz Air flight been cancelled, heavily delayed, or you have been denied boarding? If you have to wait at the airport because of a delay, cancellation or overbooking, you have a right to receive care from Wizz Air. If you have to wait overnight, you should receive a free hotel stay. If it’s a shorter delay then you should be provided with free meals and free refreshments.

It’s Wizz Air’s responsibility to take care of you.

Right to Care From Wizz Air

In the EU you have the right to receive care.

When flying with a European airline, this applies to all flights both from and to the EU. In Wizz Air’s case, the regulations apply to most of its flights to and from the EU, and, since Brexit, the UK. Passenger rights in the EU are protected under the EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.

Short Delays

If your flight is delayed for 3+ hours, Wizz Air must provide you with a free meal and refreshments, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. You can receive it in the form of coupons. Alternatively you may be asked to proceed to a particular restaurant to receive the meal.

Get in touch with Wizz Air if you haven’t been offered anything.

Long Delays

In case of an overnight delay, Wizz Air must offer you a free hotel stay and a free transfer to the hotel and back to the airport. Apart from that you should also be offered at least one free meal and some drinks, all in a reasonable relation to the waiting time.

Extraordinary Circumstances

Flights get delayed and cancelled due to various reasons.

In general, all the reasons for flight disruptions fall into two categories:

  1. Situations that are within the airline’s control — technical problems with the aircraft, not enough crew, bad planning, problems with internal computer systems, etc.
  2. Situations that are outside the airline’s control — bad weather, natural disasters, pandemics, some of the strikes, political or civil unrest, etc.

The latter is called “extraordinary circumstances”.

What if your flight has been delayed or cancelled due to extraordinary circumstances?

If the cause of delay or cancellation is something that’s beyond the airline’s control (extraordinary circumstances), Wizz Air cannot be held accountable. Whenever your Wizz Air flight is delayed or cancelled due to extraordinary circumstances, you aren’t eligible to flight delay compensation / flight cancellation compensation. However, even in these cases, you still have the right to receive care from Wizz Air.

When it comes to receiving care from the airline, it doesn’t matter.

Regarding the right to care it doesn’t matter what was the cause of the flight delay or cancellation. It doesn’t matter if it’s something within or outside the airline’s control.

You still have the right to care from Wizz Air.

But you may have to remind the airline about that.

By Europe and EU here on this page we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
