Wizz Air Refund For Cancellation

There are two possible scenarios in these situations.

You should look at when was your flight cancelled.

1. Your Flight Is Cancelled Less Than 2 Weeks Before the Trip

What if your flight is cancelled less than 2 weeks before departure?

You can get: Wizz Air refund or new flight + compensation

In this case, Wizz Air must offer you a choice between a new flight to your destination and a full refund. You have a right to choose what suits you the best. If the flight is cancelled due to the fault of the airline, in addition to that, you can get Wizz Air flight cancellation compensation. You can’t get compensation if your flight is cancelled because of things like bad weather and security issues at the airport or the country of arrival or departure. This is what you are eligible to, if your flight is cancelled no more than 14 days before the trip.

Request your Wizz Air refund to card (if you don’t want coupons).

With Wizz Air refunds and flight compensation must be transferred to your bank account. What if Wizz Air is forcing you to accept a voucher instead of money? You don’t have to accept it. Request a fund transfer to your bank account.

You can get: refund or new flight to your destination

However, you still have a right to receive refund, if you don’t wish to travel anymore. Wizz Air must offer you such an option, just like any other EU airline operating in the EU. It isn’t affected by the Wizz Air refund policy.

Wizz Air Cancelled Flight Refund: FAQ

1. If My Flight Is Cancelled, Do I Get a Refund?

If you are flying with Wizz Air, then yes, you should be offered that.

As long as the flight is from or to Europe, at the moment of writing that’s all Wizz Air passenger flights. According to the European Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, you have a right to refund. Wizz Air has to offer you that. And then it’s up to a passenger — you can accept a full refund instead of a new flight to your destination, but you can’t get both.

You can, however, get both a full refund or new flight and Wizz Air flight cancellation compensation — if your flight is cancelled less than 14 days before the trip and it’s due to the fault of Wizz Air (including technical problems).

2. Wizz Air Refund Voucher or Cash, Can I Get Money?

What if Wizz Air is offering you a voucher instead of compensation?

We, passengers, may not like that, but that’s what’s happening. Most airlines were offering vouchers and coupons during the first phase of the COVID crisis, and many do that regularly. Do you have to accept a Wizz Air compensation voucher, or can you say no? You can definitely say no — you don’t have to accept any vouchers or coupons. The Regulation No 261/2004 states that airline compensations and refunds always must be paid in cash or by bank transfer.

Have you already been given a voucher?

Demand a refund to bank card instead of a voucher.

3. Wizz Air Refusing Refund For Cancellation?

You have requested Wizz Air ticket refund, and they’re refusing it.

First of all, don’t give up. Remind them that it’s their obligation, and refer to Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Articles 5 and 8. If nothing helps, contact the national enforcement body of the country your flight is departing from. And if you need help with claiming the compensation, you can also contact our partners — a flight compensation company (linked on this page).

4. Can You Get Both Compensation and Refund?

There are situations when you can get both.

If your flight is cancelled less than 14 days before departure, and it’s due to the fault of Wizz Air, you may choose to have a full refund and compensation. The best part is that, if you choose, both your Wizz Air flight cancellation refund and compensation will be transferred to your bank account. You don’t have to accept any coupons or vouchers. In case you have already been issued one, ask Wizz Air for cash refund instead of voucher, they are obliged to do an exchange. Unless you have given your consent to receiving compensation voucher instead.
